Our story

1942

Pasquale Greco is born in Marano, Italy, on October 1st, 1942. Despite the village's hardships, his parents open a grocery store, teaching him hard work and perseverance.

1958

At 15, Pasquale leaves Italy for New York on May 17, 1958. After staying briefly with his grandfather, he travels to Chicago to join his father. Despite language barriers and discrimination, he is determined to succeed.

1959-1961

In 1959, Eduardo's health declined, causing financial strain. Pasquale worked to help the family and returned to Italy with Eduardo in 1960, who died in 1961, solidifying family unity.

1962-1964

In 1962, Pasquale meets Gina at a Chicago dance, marrying her in 1964. They live with Grandma Greco, preserving Italian traditions in their small apartment.

1966

Pasquale and Gina's first son, Eddie, is born in 1966, marking the start of the next Greco generation, raised with resilience and family values.

1970s

Pasquale gains experience in food service at a Chicago slaughterhouse, building industry connections that inspire Greco & Sons.

1990

In 1990, Pasquale and Eddie founded Greco & Sons, specializing in Italian food distribution. Within six months, they grew from one truck and $20,000 in weekly revenue to five trucks and $200,000 in weekly sales, driven by dedication and quality.

1998

Cheese Merchants of America is launched, evolving from a single grinder to a large-scale operation. Bobby and John Greco join, making all five siblings part of the family business.

2000s

The third Greco generation attends top universities, blending family dedication with academic success, while upholding values of unity and perseverance.

2003-2006

Greco expands from Chicago to Milwaukee and Arizona.

2014

Seeing the potential in the cheese market, a 300,000 sq ft facility was established with Bob Greco leading the growth of Cheese Merchants of America as president.

2018-2022

In 2018, the family launches Holmen Cheese, later acquiring Eau Galle Cheese, Toscana Cheese, and Dairy State Cheese by the end of 2022. By 2024, the Greco Family now vertically integrated the Cheese Merchants platform and control over 50% of their raw material cheese needs, ensuring stable, family-owned supply chains for generational growth plans in the future.

2023

The family marks 25 years of Cheese Merchants of America, celebrating their growth from a single cheese grater to a national brand producing 180 million lbs of cheese annually.

2025+

Led by the third and fourth generations, the Greco family continues to expand their businesses, driven by hard work, humility, and unity. Their focus on innovation and reinvestment promises a prosperous future.
